Sometimes it's a storm and all the things that can fly, do. He settles down and waits for it to calm down, for the wind to stop blowing. It's late and he never gets to sleep before it's closer to morning.

”I love you,” he whispers into the air and the storm stops, for a moment, looks at him, before going back to destroying everything. He sighs, sighs hard and deep and it's so quiet inside his head even though the storm is out there, destroying whatever it can.

They tell him that he's insane, that a sane person would not love a storm, would not live with it, give it all his attention. But he just smiles, tells them to mind their own business, and would you mind closing the door? I don't want Sherlock to get out.

They go, all of them one by one (Sarah stops coming over after the first time, Lestrade levitates and spares him a sad glance that he tries not to think about, Harry asks him to visit her) and he's left alone with Sherlock.

“I was writing you a love song,” he tells when they have all gone and he's alone with the now calm storm.

There is no answer and he sighs, walks to their bedroom. “I wish you would talk sometimes.”

He used to be free. He is, John always says, you can leave anytime you want (but he doesn't feel like he can, he knows John will break if he does and really, do I even want to?) so he must be able to do it.

He rages inside, and isn't that something? Everything around him falls apart and breaks, when he touches them, because he isn't supposed to, now is he?

John gives him everything he can give and it's not enough, because a storm can not live a peaceful life. Lestrade, the slow and calm wind, gives him more, more, all the crimes for him to solve with John running after him, trying to keep up with him, telling him he wants it all.

Sometimes he thinks it would be so easy to fall and believe that a human could understand, could think it was all enough, running after a storm and living with it, loving it. (Sometimes he thinks he has already fallen.)
